Trane ductwork repair in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $150 – $650 installed, depending on whether we’re patching a single failed connection, replacing a crushed trunk section, or resealing an entire plenum. We stock Trane-compatible duct fittings, collars, mastic, and flex duct on our trucks, so most repairs happen same-day. You’ll usually discover the problem the way most South Florida homeowners do: one room that never cools, a musty smell when the air kicks on, or a utility bill that climbed 30% with no obvious reason.

The ductwork is the delivery system for every dollar your Trane system spends conditioning air. When it leaks, you’re cooling your attic. In Fort Lauderdale’s humidity, that wasted cold air condenses inside the duct chase, and now you’ve got a second problem: moisture where it doesn’t belong. Marco Benitez has pulled apart enough failed duct runs in this city to know that most problems trace back to two things: age plus humidity, or a previous install that was never sealed right in the first place.
Which Trane Models This Applies To
Ductwork isn’t model-specific the way a control board or blower motor is. The ducts attached to a Trane XR14, XL16i, or XV18 system are sized and routed to the home, not the unit. What matters is the duct type, the diameter, and the connection points at the plenum and registers. Trane systems typically pair with standard residential duct systems: R-6 or R-8 flex duct, sheet metal trunks, and fiberboard plenums. We service all of them.
The compatibility gotcha most owners hit: if your Trane system was installed with undersized ductwork (common in Fort Lauderdale homes built in the 1980s and 1990s), the ducts fail faster because the system is working against higher static pressure. An XL18 running on ducts sized for a 2.5-ton system when it’s actually a 4-ton unit will burn through connections and seams. We check this when we repair. If the duct sizing is wrong, a patch is a temporary fix. We’ll tell you that plainly.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for ducts specifically: Trane doesn’t manufacture ductwork. The sheet metal, flex duct, collars, and mastic we use come from the same supply houses that feed every major installer in Broward County. What matters is the R-value of the insulation (R-6 minimum in an unconditioned Florida attic, R-8 better), the gauge of the metal, and whether the seams get sealed properly. Dalton Heating & Air Fort Lauderdale is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Trane. We work on Trane equipment every week, and we also stock parts for Carrier and Lennox systems.

Signs Your Trane Ductwork Repair Is Failing
- One room that never reaches setpoint. The rest of the house cools fine, but that back bedroom stays warm. That’s a disconnected or crushed branch run feeding that register. Air is leaving the duct before it reaches the room.
- Dust accumulating faster than it should. If you’re wiping furniture twice a week and seeing gray fuzz around the supply registers, your ducts are pulling attic air through gaps in the return side. That’s unfiltered, unconditioned air mixing into your system.
- Musty or stale smell when the blower runs. In Fort Lauderdale, humid attic air drawn into a leaking return duct condenses inside the duct liner. Mold follows. The smell is the warning sign that moisture has been sitting in there.
- Electric bill spiked with no change in usage. A duct leak can waste 20 to 30 percent of the air your Trane system produces. You’re paying to condition air that never reaches the living space.
- Whistling or fluttering noise near the air handler. Air escaping through a small gap under pressure makes a whistle. A flapping sound often means flex duct has torn loose from its collar and the inner liner is moving with the airflow.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Installed ductwork repair in Fort Lauderdale runs $150 – $650, and the range depends on what we find. Here’s the breakdown:
- Single connection reseal or collar replacement: $150 – $250. This is the most common repair: one joint failed, air is leaking, we cut it back, re-collar it, and seal it with mastic.
- Flex run replacement (short section, 10 – 20 feet): $250 – $450. Includes the new R-6 or R-8 flex, new collars at both ends, and proper hanging every 4 feet.
- Trunk line or plenum repair: $400 – $650. This is metal work, sometimes in a tight attic, and it’s where you want someone who knows how to cut and seal sheet metal properly.
Every Trane duct repair from Dalton Heating & Air Fort Lauderdale includes a written price before any work starts, a written guarantee on the repair, and a free return visit if the repair fails within the guarantee period. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s been the same since 2003. We don’t do verbal estimates, and we don’t add charges after the fact.

What you can safely do: check your registers. Pull the grille off, look inside, and see if the duct collar is still attached to the register boot. Look for visible gaps, dust streaks around the grille, or a register that’s blowing weak. Check your air filter too, because a clogged filter drives up static pressure and accelerates duct failure. These are inspection steps, not repairs.
What goes wrong with DIY: ductwork in a Fort Lauderdale attic is hot, tight, and dark. Reaching a failed joint usually means crawling across ceiling joists with drywall below. One bad step and you’re through the ceiling. The materials matter too: foil tape fails in Florida heat within a year or two. Mastic applied correctly lasts decades, but it’s messy and unforgiving if you don’t know how to work it. If the repair involves anything beyond a visible loose connection at the register, call (754) 354-6972. We’ll get a technician out, diagnose it, and put the price in writing before we touch anything.
FAQs
Flex duct in a South Florida attic typically lasts 15 to 20 years before the outer jacket degrades and the inner liner starts to compromise. Metal trunk lines can last 40 years or more if they were sealed properly at install. The Florida heat and humidity age flex duct faster here than in drier climates. If your home is older than 15 years and you’re seeing recurring duct issues, a full evaluation makes more sense than another patch. Call (754) 354-6972 and we’ll tell you honestly which one your system needs.
Most individual failures, like a collapsed collar or a torn flex run, are repaired by cutting back the damaged section and replacing just that portion. Full duct replacement is only warranted when the majority of the runs are degraded, the insulation is failing, or the original install was so poorly sized that repairs won’t hold. Marco’s rule: if the cost of repairs within the next 24 months will exceed 60 percent of a new duct system, replace it.
A single connection reseal takes 45 minutes to an hour. A flex run replacement runs one to two hours depending on attic access. Trunk line work can take half a day. Most jobs are done same-day, and we’ll tell you the timeframe before we start.
Yes. Our trucks carry R-6 and R-8 flex duct, standard sheet metal collars and register boots, mastic, mastic tape, and hangers. For most repairs, we can complete the job on the first visit. If a job requires a custom metal fitting, we fabricate it at our shop and schedule the install within a day or two.
